SVG achieves podium spot at ECVA Beach Volleyball

The St Vincent and the Grenadines male team to the 2024 Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association’s (ECVA) Senior Beach Volleyball tournament, finished in third place.

The tournament, held at the Cul de Sac Bay, Castries, St Lucia from February 23 to 25, saw the Vincentian duo of Jamaar Cropper and Ronaldo Franklyn taking the bronze medal.

The Vincentians ended the tournament with a 4:1 win/loss ratio.

Facing the Antiguan pair of Jahmarie James and Adrian Constant in the third place play off, Cropper and Franklyn trumped 2-0 (21-16, 23-21).

It was the second win for Cropper and Franklyn over the Antiguans, as they beat them 2-0 (21-17, 23-21) in Group C play.

The Vincentian pair had emerged tops of Group C, having also defeated St Lucia Team Two, made up of Darnell Eudoxie and Rio Victor 2-1(20-22, 21-17, 15-13).

In the quarter finals, Cropper and Franklyn disposed of Dominica’s Team One, composed of Yhan Florent and Ray Robinson, 2-0( 21-17, 21-11).

However, the Vincentians stumbled when they met St Lucia Team One of Joseph Clercent and Sheldon Descartes, beaten 2-0(21-16, 21-16).

Clercent and Descartes went on to win and retain their title over Eudoxie and Victor, 2-1.

While Cropper and Franklyn made it to the podium, the case was different for the females who represented St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The combination of Saquanna Duncan and Shanadia Sylvester lost to Grenada, St Lucia Team One, Dominica, and Bermuda, all by 2-0.

Duncan and Sylvester thus suffered four losses, but had a solitary 2-0 win over the British Virgin Islands.

Grenada’s Thornia Mitchell and Renisha Stafford defeated St Lucia Team One in the final, 2-1, thus dethroning St Lucians.

Twelve male teams and 10 female teams participated in the tournament.
