Track and Field season 2024 off and running

The 2024 Track and Field season began in earnest last Saturday, January 6, at the Diamond Track Facility.

Starting the year’s activities was Development Meet #1, which saw competition in the 300m Hurdles, Shot Putt, the 80m, 100m, 150m 200m, 400m, 800m, as well as the 1500m.

Taking advantage of the early warmth were athletes from the main clubs – High Performance, IT DAT Academy, X- Cel, X- Ceed, Biomechanics, Chatoyer, as well as the St Vincent Grammar School Track

Club, the St Martin’s Secondary School and the Kingstown Preparatory School.

Officials from Team Athletics SVG are anticipating a bigger turnout of athletes, parents and other well-wishers, with the staging of Development Meet #2 at the same venue.

On the programme for this Saturday, January 13, are the 80m and 150m for Under-9 athletes, the 100m , 200m, 600m and Long Jump for the Under-11s.

Meanwhile, all other age groups will contest the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, Discus and Long Jump.

But Saturday’s proceedings will start with the 300m Hurdles, as Team Athletics SVG seeks to get local athletes more adept to this event.
