Unique Touch stages inaugural National Youth Futsal Tournament

The Unique Touch Soccer Academy, in conjunction with the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF), hosted the inaugural National Youth Futsal Tournament, last Friday 29, December 2023.

The hardcourts of the Netball Complex at Arnos Vale Playing Field was the venue for the first outing of that type for the youth.

When the dust settled, System Three champed both the Under-11 and Under-15, with Parkside Rollers, copping the Under-13.

In addition to the winners, the top goal-scorers and MVPs in each category were rewarded.

Happy that the event came off despite some minor hitches, head of the Unique Touch Soccer Academy, Renrick Alexander, told SEARCHLIGHT that the competition extracted the passion among the youth.

“Futsal brings a passion…The speed in which the game is played, the fun, the experience they youths had and the opportunity to play in an organized environment, were what gave me joy and satisfaction on the day,” Alexander commented.

Given the success of the maiden tournament, Alexander promises an annual staging.

“We are willing to do anything to promote Futsal among the youths in St Vincent and Grenadines, once persons come on board and assist, as we need to look into the youths more and provide with more avenues to express themselves in sports,” Alexander related.

The Questelles-born Alexander, who is based in New York, USA, has been a strong advocate for a more structured approached to youth development here in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

One who loves St Vincent and the Grenadines with an infinite passion, Alexander has been giving back to football in many ways, namely in the form of gear and sponsorship.
