St Vincent and the Grenadines finished second behind St Lucia in the OECS Senior Championships that took place at the Massacre Indoor Facility in Dominica, from December 15 to 17, 2023.
In the teams’ event, the Vincentians were runners up to St Lucia in both the men’s and women’s finals.
The men’s journey saw them recording 3-0 wins over St Kitts & Nevis, and Antigua & Barbuda as well as Dominica B and Dominica A in the semi-finals.
But the Vincentians, represented by Damion Dublin, Sean Stanley and Romano Spencer, were defeated 3-0 by St Lucia in the final.
Meanwhile, St Vincent and the Grenadines’ journey in Women’s play saw them defeating Grenada 3-2, Dominica , 3-0 but lost 1-3 to St Lucia in the preliminaries.
Representing St Vincent and the Grenadines in women’s play, which was in a round robin format, were Jessica Mc Carter, Shanecia Delpesche and Leah Cumberbatch.
McCarter and Cumberbatch took bronze in the Women’s doubles, with the duo of Stanley and Delpesche doing the same in the Mixed Doubles.
Delpesche had the best showing for the women, as she was the losing finalist in the singles, beaten by Shantal Charles of St Lucia.
Among the men, SVG’s best results in the Men’s Open Singles came from national champion – Damion Dublin who was beaten 0-3 , in the quarter finals to Chris Wells of St Lucia.
St Lucia bossed the championships with some aplomb, winning the Teams, Male and Female Doubles, Mixed Doubles, along with the Open Singles, Male and Female.
Six countries participated, but Dominica featured two teams.
The 2023 edition of the championships represented a return after a 10-year hiatus.
Antigua and Barbuda is the designated host for the 2024 championships.
