Masters Squash players compete in international tournaments

Three Vincentians – James Bentick, Andre John and Othneil Bailey, all competed last weekend, at invitational tournaments in three geographical zones.

Bentick, competing at the maiden Penang Masters Tournament in Malaysia, from November 17 to 19, played unbeaten to lift the inaugural title. En route to his title, Bentick beat Chong Sen 11-8, 11-3, 11-3, then overcame Colin Robertson 11-5, 11-6, 12-10 in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, John copped the Men’s 55 and over category of the 2023 Milt Russ Masters Invitational Squash Tournament, staged at the Harvard Club in New York, from November 16 to 19.

His unbeaten sojourn saw him ousting Domingo Tiozon, 11-2, 11-4, 11-4, then registered an 11-6, 11-7, 11-5 triumph over Timothy Luke. John crowned if all off by beating Nick Monogenis,11-5, 11-5, 9-11, 11-2 in the final.

And, Bailey, unable to emulate Bentick and John, had to settle for the third place in the Meridian Masters 035 held in Tortola, November 17 to 19.

Bailey lost to Nick Murrills 7-11, 7-11, 10-12 in the semifinals, but defeated Stuart Rau, 11-8, 11-9, 8-11, 11-2, to clinch the consolation third place match.
