Brighton Playing Field Lighting Project shining through
Within the next six months, the Brighton Playing Field will have 300 lux of lights with the capability of an additional 200 lux.
The contract to commence the EC$750 000 project was signed on October 9 at the Brighton Technical Centre.
The project is seen as another of the high points of the Carl Dickson led St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation executive, since taking off in 2019.
Addressing the signing ceremony, Dickson said, “Today is a historic day in the life of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation …It is important that this project is executed in the manner it was conceived”.
Dickson expounded that the project was carefully crafted application under the FIFA Foundation, which essentially deals with restoration work of Member Associations to their original state, and, given that the facility never had lights, Dickson revealed that they had to find a way of utilizing the term “restorative” in the project.
“What we did, we became creative and spoke about restoring the lives affected by the volcanic eruptions in 2021…. This in itself is a historic project for the FIFA Foundation”, Dickson informed.
He thus informed, “ The rationale behind lighting project speaks of extending hours and accommodating those affected negatively by the fall out of the volcanic eruptions(and) we have seen a huge migration from the north into the eastern areas”.
Critically as well, Dickson said that it was imperative the lights be installed at the facility, to complement the many activities at the Technical Centre.
“This would give us a unique opportunity to extend our competitions into a conducive environment… We have eight national teams and we only have seven days in a week… That way we would be able to navigate the teams and their engagement at the Technical Centre a lot more meaningfully with this project”, Dickson related.
The signing of the contract was done by Dickson and Davon Cato, CEO of NTech, witnessed by Minister the Public Services, Consumer Affairs and Sports Frederick Stephenson.
Also on hand were Senator Ashelle Morgan, who stood in for Minister of Finance and Area Representative, Camillo Gonsalves, along with Fidel Neverson, CEO of ENergy Solutions Inc, who serves as the Project Manager. In addition, Neverson oversaw the tender and bid processes.
