Archery Association proud of team’s debut showing
St Vincent and the Grenadines’ first effort at a regional Archery championship has been heralded as a significant boost for the local Archery organisation.
A six-member team represented the Archery Association of St Vincent and the Grenadines at the World Archery Americas fifth Caribbean Development Championships(CDC), held at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago, from September 29 to October 1.
As newcomers, the Vincentian team went beyond participation, and were good enough to earn medals.
The duo of Jared Nichols and Divya Jiandani pouched a gold medal in the Recurved Beginners Under-18/ Under-21 Mixed team category.
Individually, Nichols collected a silver in Recurve Under-21 Men’s singles, whilst Jiandani also took silver in the Recurve Beginner Under -18 Women.
And, completing the podium finishes for St Vincent and the Grenadines was Mariel Burgin, who paired off with David Persaud of the British Virgin Islands to cop a bronze medal in the Recurve Beginners Senior Mixed Team.
Sanjay Jiandani, who travelled in the capacity as coach of the team, noted: “The success of the team is part of a vision for continued success in the sport of Archery here in St Vincent and the Grenadines”.
The senior Jiandani, who also serves as President of the Archery Association of St Vincent and the Grenadines, believes the debut outing will help propel the sport locally.
“The Archery Association of SVG is proud of the team and looks forward to even higher levels of competition in 2024 and beyond”, the president commented.
Apart from the medallists, Ian Gibson competed in the Recurve Senior Men Category, while Richol Richards and Marese Burgin participated in the Recurve Senior Women Category.
