Big Round D Town Road Relay this Sunday
The streets of capital Kingstown will be abuzz this Sunday, September 24 when Team Athletics SVG stages the Round D Town Road Relay.
The much anticipated six leg event begins at 2 pm, at the intersection of Halifax Street and South River Road.
All six legs will begin and end at the same point.
Athletes, from the start point, will head to Sharpe Street then on to Bay Street, with the primary schools’ competitors turning on Higginson Street and back to the start point, while those from the secondary and open categories will turn on Linley Street, before heading back to start.
Teams that finish first, second and third in each segment will be presented with cash prizes.
Organisers envisage that Sunday’s Relay, which kicks start the Road Racing calendar, will surpass the over 200 athletes that participated in the 2022 edition.
When the Round D Town Relay returned last year, following an unplanned two-year hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Fitz Hughes Government won the male segment of the Primary Schools Division and the Chateaubelair Methodist, took the female.
Taking the title in the male segment of the secondary schools was the St Martins Secondary with Thomas Saunders winning the females.
Meanwhile, X- Cel Track Club won the male Open and High Performance, the female Open.
