Youth cricket programme opens today at Cumberland

Young male and female cricketers from the North Leeward communities will be given the opportunity to further develop their cricketing skills from today Tuesday August 8, when a training programme commences at the Cumberland Playing Field.

According to Elron Lewis, the programme was organized by the Jules Anthony Cricket Club, which through its youth academy’s training programme is seeking to inculcate in the young men and women the skills needed to succeed at the higher levels of the game.

“The programme is geared towards developing specific skills including fitness,” said Lewis, who is president of the Jules Anthony Club, coordinator of cricket in North Leeward and one of the two cricket development officers in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The daily sessions commence at 2:00 p.m. with a discussion and session planning, followed by warm up and fitness workouts, fielding drills, bowling drills, the cool down and discussion.

The programme, which ends on September 3, 2023 will host practice matches on Saturdays with involvement from both males and females. Matches are also expected to be held against invitational teams which would allow the facilitators to access the progress made, and give match experience to the young North Leeward players.
