A full complement of eight athletes will represent St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) at the 2023 edition of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) Championships, set for Saturday and Sunday, July 15 and 16 in the Dominican Republic.

It will be the first since 2017, that this country will field a full team.

A combination of two males and two females will compete in the Under-13 and Under-15 categories of the championships.

The Under-13 quartet comprises Katriel Bailey and Ayah Stapleton (females); with Naieem Kydd and Jamaul Alexander, the males.

They will try to outdo their competitors in five events.

The females will compete in the 60 metres sprint, the long jump, high jump, baseball throw and the 800 metres. The lone exception for the genders, will see the males running the 1000 metres.

In the Female Under-15, SVG will contest the 60 metres hurdles, the 80 metres, long jump, high jump, shot putt, baseball throw, and the 1000 metres. The males on the other hand will compete in the 60 metres hurdles, the 80 metres and a 1200 metres run.

The eight athletes, who left St Vincent and the Grenadines last Monday, July 10, en route to the Dominican Republic, are accompanied by manager/ chaperone- Chantel Legair, and coach- Rawlson Morgan.

SVG’s best showing at any regional age group championships, dates back 10 years ago, when Shafiqua Maloney won the Under-15 title, when the championships were limited to the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) grouping.
