Vincentian is head coach of Boys Basketball team at North Carolina High School

Newly appointed head coach of the Atkins High School Boys’ Basketball team of North Carolina, USA, Vincentian- Kishon Bishop, is confident that he is prepared for the task ahead.

Bishop, who was announced as the head coach of the school last week, outlined to SEARCHLIGHT the timing of his new job.

“ It’s God’s timing … it something that I avoided for a while, but this is a perfect fit …. I promised myself that when I was more matured and deal with everything that comes with coaching, that I will go back into coaching.”

Bishop said that other factors were critical in his decision making.

“ It coincides with my son who is a football player and he attends Atkins High School … It is also a very high academia institution and my philosophy and belief are that if you are smart in the classroom, you are smart on the court or the field of play.”

He noted that taking up the job is a win-win situation.

“What they need is what I can offer them… What I need is what they can offer me and at this stage of my business, I am at a point where I am a household name …,” he noted, adding “ I also needed facilities that I have access to on my own.”

Commenting on some of his immediate ambitions Bishop stated: “My number one goal is to build a culture community… We will be calling it the ‘Camel Community’, and the way we build a culture and a culture in sports is expectation…. “The way we do things, the way we play, so, I am very excited about the chances of building a culture, which is the foundation, then we build the walls.”

Bishop, who was born in Campden Park, moved to the USA after completing his secondary education at the St Vincent Grammar School.

He then attended the Piedmont International University from 2004 to 2008, and from 2012 to 2014.

At Piedmont International University, Bishop graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Student Ministries, along with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Health and Physical Education.

These go with his Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Health and Physical Education which he attained at High Point University.

Bishop began his flagship programme, BlueChip Basketball Academy in 2012 in the USA, also setting up shop here in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

To the good, BlueChip facilitated a Basketball scholarship for Shad Thomas of Union Island in 2019, and he is excelling by leaps and bounds, both in the sport and in his academics in North Carolina.

Bishop is also the founder of the Hope & Hope Inc., that was created for Christian athletes who want to use their share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others.
