Catalans still TPBO Football champions

For the third consecutive occasion, GBS Catalans have triumphed in the Carib/Top Belair Progressive Organisation’s (TBPO) Nine-A-Side Football Tournament.

Their latest accolade came last Sunday, July 2, at the Dauphine Playing Field when they defeated Dream FC in the final.

As on three previous occasions, Dream FC had to settle for the second place.

However, last Sunday proved to be the least convincing of Catalans’ wins as the match ended 2-2 in regulation time. Catalans, though, prevailed 4-1 on penalties.

When Catalans won the inaugural title in 2018, the score-line was 2-1. Retaining the title in 2019, it was 5-3 in their favour.

Even as Catalans and Dream kept their positions, 1998 Hillside Rollers, which placed fourth in 2019, moved up one notch to third this time around. Experience placed fourth.

Catalans’ Steven Pierre was named player of the final, as well as player of the tournament; while his team mate, Kishorn Durham, scored the most goals in the preliminary round.

Curtis King Conquerors won Zone One, and Dream won Zone Two.

Additionally, medals were presented to the MVP of each the 16 participating teams.

The 2023 tournament was resuming after the 2020 edition was aborted following the COVID-19 outbreak in March of that year.

There were no tournaments in 2021 and 2022.
