Nine Vincentians in search of Level Two cricket coaching certificate
Nine local Cricket coaches, along with two from Barbados and one from Grenada are awaiting their level two certification after completing three days of theorical and practical sessions at the Arnos Vale Playing Field from June 1-3.
The course which forms part of the Coaching Education Unit of Cricket West Indies, in collaboration with The University of the West Indies, was delivered by Ryerson Bhagoo and Keshava Ramphal.
Following the delivery of the course, Bhagoo reasoned that the work has just started for the coaches.
“Our main intention is to see coaches going back to their environment and really seek out these players who may not have had exposure to the game, getting them excited about the game and develop that natural talent that they may have around the game … Make them love the game and develop them at the various youth levels for your country and the West Indies later on.”
Noting that proper coaching plays an integral part in the development of the sport, Bhagoo said, “We see this continuous learning process only aiding in the development of our players as they move through the pathway towards every cricketer’s dream (which is), playing for the West Indies team.”
The UWI Sport Faculty management/ consultant added that they are ensuring that when a coach attains a certificate, he or she has attained a level of proficiency eligible to impart knowledge and techniques especially to young cricketers.
“ We have tried to make this programme a rigorous one so coaches are working hard in the classroom and in the post classroom sessions so we know that effort continues …There will be follow up workshops that CWI put on from time to time which will engage these same coaches (additionally) the coaches have to submit a video of work they are doing for further assessment,” Bhagoo outlined.
The Vincentians seeking the level two certification are William “Bill” Edwards, Elron Lewis, Javid Harry, Bertram Stapleton, Winston Samuel, Cordel Jack, Nyasha Williams, Stacy Ann Adams and Shevorn Clarke.
West Indies female players- Shakira Selman of Barbados and Afy Fletcher of Grenada also were part of the three day course.
