Roban enters Penn State University’s Dean’s List
Vincentian athlete Handal Roban, a freshman at Penn State University in the USA, continues to excel in all aspects of his student- athlete career.
The St Vincent and the Grenadines all time record holder, last week was announced on the Dean’s List for the 2023 Spring in the College of Liberal Arts.
The university thus sent Roban a letter of congratulations.
Extracts from the letter stated: “ This laudable achievement has placed you among the top students of the university…This academic accomplishment reflects both your ability and your effort, and it will be noted in your official record at Penn State… We applaud your effort and commitment to education”.
Another segment informed the 20 year old Roban, “ We commend your dedication to excellence and trust that you will continue to be successful in your future endeavours”.
Attaining a spot on the Dean’s List was just one of Roban’s accomplishment over the past week, as last Friday, May 29, he advanced to the next phase of the NCAA’s Championships, in his pet event, the 800 metres.
He clocked 1:48.99 in the preliminary, which earned him qualification for the big event.
This is the second time for the year that Roban has done so.
His qualification came on February 4, at the Skyes & Sabock Invitational, when he clocked 1:47.01 at the Indoor championships.
Then on March 11, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Roban finished with a bronze in the final, with a 1:47.28 clocking.
Roban thus became the top freshman in the event in the country over the distance, as well as the first medallist for Penn State since 2018.
