Vincentian athlete adds to his resume

Vincentian, Shad Thomas continues to carve a name for himself and his country on the United States (US) college Basketball scene.

He is one of three student athletes from Catawba Community College in North Carolina, who have been signed for upcoming 2023 season.

Thomas will be part of the unit that will be trying to retain the South Atlantic Conference tournament title.

The young athlete is one of the top rebounders in the country and spent the previous two seasons at Catawba Valley Community College.

He averaged 16 points and 14 rebounds this past season for the Red Hawks.

Head Coach Rob Perron said “ Shad is an elite rebounder who plays with extreme energy and fits into their up-tempo and pressing style very well”.

Perron added  that Thomas does a ton of things that a lot of winning teams need.

The other two selectees are Justin Mitchel and Montraivis White.

A former student of the Union Island Secondary School, Thomas moved to the USA in 2019, on the instrumentality of another Vincentian, Kishon Bishop, through a Blue Chip Basketball Academy scholarship.

During his first two years in the US, Thomas attended the Salem Baptist Christian School where he helped the school for the first time, win the Conference Championships in 2020.

He then earned a two- year scholarship to Catawba Community College, and continued to set new heights and accolades.

Last year, Thomas was the top rebounder in the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Championships.

Additionally, Thomas has won player of the week and team awards.
