Memorial Funeral Home to expand support of Primary Schools’ Football
The Memorial Funeral Home/ Marriaqua Football Association (MFA) Primary Schools Easter Football Cup, will expand to include more schools on the Windward side of the mainland.
That is the promise of Stephen Da Silva of the Memorial Funeral Home, who addressed the opening of the second edition of the competition last Monday, April 3, at the Cane End Playing Field.
“ We want to spread our wings out … We want to cover the windward area … I know that is going to be a challenge financially but we pledge our support”, Da Silva promised.
Da Silva also assured the MFA ‘s executive of future sponsorship of the competition.

“ We pledge that going forward we will continue to support financially and in any way that we can,” Da Silva emphasised.
Apart from Da Silva, remarks were heard from Parliamentary Representative for the area, St Clair Prince; Minister of Sports Frederick Stephenson; first Vice President of the SVGFF Otashie Spring; and Yosiah Dascent, President of the Marriaqua Football Association.
Twelve school teams are contesting for honours in this year’s competition, four more than last year.
Following the brief official opening five matches were played.
Marriaqua Government defeated Biabou Methodist, 2-0; Lowmans Windward Anglican and Lauders Primary drew 1-1; while defending champions Greiggs Primary, defeated Richland Park Seventh Day Adventist, 4-0; Belmont Primary pipped Lauders Government 2-1; and Cane End Government edged out Marriaqua Government, 1-0 .
The other competing schools are the Brighton Methodist, Argyle Primary, Richland Park Government and Evesham Methodist.
This year’s competition has the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation and Extreme FM as the other sponsors.
