Police Youth Clubs stage Netball competition

After the successful hosting of its Football competition last year, the Police Youth Clubs are engaged in another sporting endeavour, Netball.

Breaking new ground again, the inaugural Police Youth Club Netball tournament bounced off last Sunday, March 12 at the Arnos Vale Netball Complex.

Eighteen of the 20 registered teams were present at last Sunday’s colourful opening ceremony, a release from the police states.

When the results of the adjudication were revealed, the Sandy Bay Youth Club was the best dressed team on show.

National coordinator of the Police Youth Clubs, Sergeant Stephen Billy underscored the purpose of the competition.

“ We realise that a number of you have never played Netball before, but that is the idea…it is not all about the competition…it is about getting you together so you can socialize and, through sports, you can learn discipline.”

Underscoring the aspirations of the competition, Billy implored “We want you to shine because it is about you and no one else… “.

“We want you to take the opportunity and do your best… we want you to be respectful and disciplined.”

Matches are set to take place in Richland Park, Sandy Bay, Fancy, Layou , Spring Village, Petit Bordel and San Souci.

The competition is slated to conclude on Sunday, April 2.

The Police Youth Clubs were initiated in 2002 and have since grown to 28 clubs, with a total membership of over 1500 youths.
