New Cycling President plans to continue pedalling

Admitting that Cycling is in his genes, and he could not walk away from serving the sport, newly elected President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cycling Union, Shimano Bailey, plans to continue pedalling as he takes over the helm from his father, Trevor “ Sailor” Bailey.

Shimano, a former National Cycling champion got the right to lead the union, as he was the unanimous choice at the organization’s elective annual general meeting held last Saturday, March 18, at the Lion’s Den in Kingstown.

In his acceptance speech, the younger Bailey, who is in his early 30s said: “Cycling is in my genes. It is what I live and love… I know that I could not have pedalled away from this moment, knowing that my dad named my brothers and myself after bicycle brands”.

Shimano’s younger brothers are named Mavric and Zefal.

Conceding that he has to fill the large boots left by his father, the new president projects that he has a team that is well equipped to steer the course for the next four years.

“The current executive has a great deal of mileage in their legs and experience administratively, together, we will continue to keep pedalling”, Bailey quipped.

He said he will be banking on the many experiences gained from his dad, and former treasurer, Martin Bollers, two long standing administrators of Cycling.

The new executive of the SVGCU, also includes Peter Durrant- vice president; Sezevra Joseph general secretary; Rosheda Richards treasurer; Desmarie Greenaway public relations officer; Marlon Antrobus trustee; and Deptor Culzac Cyclists representative.
