First round of matches contested in Female Football Tournament

The executive of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF), can boast of hosting the biggest ever local female Football tournament.

The participating clubs have each been aided with grants of $10,000. The funds are part of a grant received from the governing body of Football, FIFA, back in 2020.

The female segment forms part of the SVGFF’s 2022/2023 National Club Championships.

Things got going last Saturday, March 4, with the Premier Division( 11 vs 11) at the Victoria Park involving seven clubs: Camdonia/Chelsea; North Leeward Predators; Largo Height; Bequia United; Toni Stores Jugglers; Je Belle; and Owia United.

Six of the clubs were in action on the opening day, with Camdonia/ Chelsea handing Owia United a 5-0 defeat. Similarly, Predators defeated Toni Stores Jugglers 5-0, and Je Belle edged out Bequia United 2-1.

In the second round played last Saturday, March 11, Predators and Largo Height drew 0-0, while Bequia edged out Owia United 3-2, and Camdonia/Chelsea earned a 2-0 win over Toni Stores Jugglers.

Meanwhile, 20 clubs are stashed in the First Division, which will play 7 versus 7. These clubs have been divided into three groups, namely A, B and C.

Lodged in Group A are DESCO; SV United; Brownstown; Sparta; Glenside Ball Blazers; and Richland Park Pride and Joy.

In group B are Avenues United; Sion Hill; Awesome; BESCO/Pastures, Hope International; Strike Force; Sharpes FC; and 1998 Hillside Rollers. QCESCO Titans; Layou; Sharpes 09; K&R Strikers; Hill View; and Parkside Rollers are placed in Group C.

The First Division kicked off last Saturday at two venues. At the Layou Playing Field, K&R strikers defeated QCESCO Titans 6-3; Hill View defeated Sharpes 09 4-1; and Layou hammered Parkside Rollers 13-0. At the Richmond Hill Playing Field, Strike Force had a 2-0 win over 1998 Hillside Rollers.

And on Sunday at the Brighton Playing Field Glenside Ball Blazers had a 3-0 win against DESCO; and SV United swamped Brownstown 15-0.

The National Club Championships will be on recess until the St Vincent and the Grenadines Senior Men’s team, Vincy Heat, fulfils its international obligations.
