Delpesche wins Table Tennis title in Grenada

Vincentian, Shanecia Delpesche defeated Sandra Joseph of Dominica in straight sets 11-8, 11-6, 11-5, to pouch the Female Under-19 title of the LQ Classic Invitational Table Tennis Tournament held on Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4, in Grenada.

Delpesche thus played unbeaten in the tournament which was held at the Grenada Youth Center in Morne Rouge.

However, her Under-19 team mate, Caleb Howard, could not replicate her feat in the male category losing to Cedric Marquis of Grenada in the semifinal. Marquis won the duel, 13-11, 11-3, 10-12, 11-6.

The other member of the St Vincent and the Grenadines team, Zayden Cyrus, also got to the semi-final stage of the Under-15 male segment. Playing in his first representative tournament for his country, Cyrus was defeated by Grenada’s Zadine Gibbs, 6-11, 7-11, 7-11.

Grenada’s Quarnelle Walker copped the Under-15 Boys’ title, with Jonique Mapp, also of Grenada, being named the Boys’ Under-13 champion, and another Grenadian, Savani Frederick, the Girls’ Under-15 winner.

The Vincentian contingent also comprised Sean Stanley, manager/coach.

Next in terms of regional participation for the St Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association is the ALBA Games set for Venezuela next month.
