Kodi Grant takes Long Jump gold in Jamaica
Vincentian, Kodi Grant got his first taste of Long Jump triumph on Jamaican soil, when last Saturday, January 7, he won the Boys Under-17 event at the staging of the Pure Water Danny William Invitational Track and Field Development Meet at the Jamaica College’s Ashenheim Stadium.
Grant, who is in his first year at the Jamaica College, jumped 6.43m. However, the mark was short of his best- 6.52m achieved at the Wendell Hercules National Championships, held on May 7, 2022 at the Sir Vincent Beache Stadium at Diamond.
In his debut year at the 2022 Junior Carifta Games in Jamaica, Grant’s best distance in the Long Jump was 6.12m.
Then at the Whitsuntide Games in June last year, Grant leapt his way to the gold medal in the Under-17 division.
Grant is a former student of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School, and is member of the X- Ceed Sports Club here in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
Apart from the Long Jump, Grant competes in the Triple Jump and High Jump events.
The multi- talented Grant, is a former captain of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Under-15 Cricket team.
Last year, he represented the Windward Islands Under-17 Cricket Team as well as the St Vincent and the Grenadines Under-19s.
