Athletes touch down on Tarmac Run

Eighty- four athletes thronged the decommissioned E.T Joshua Airport last Saturday, October 22 to be part of the Tarmac Run, staged by Team Athletics SVG.

Morphed as a precursor to the launch of Vincy Moves, which officially took place at the nearby Arnos Vale Playing Field, the event proved a good fillip for the sport.

Competition was in three categories: Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Open.

Winning the Female component of the Primary Schools, was Kamyra Lewis of the Chateaubelair Methodist School, who clocked a time of 7:16.75.

The Chateaubelair Methodist, also ran away with the Male event title with Javid Lampkin being the first to finish in 6: 04.61.

Second was Jayden Ryan and third, Devante Turtin, all from the Chateaubelair Methodist School.

The primary schools athletes covered a distance of 1.5km.

Similarly, it was the Barrouallie Secondary School that took the top places in the Secondary Schools’ category.

Winning the Female race was Kesiann John in 13:58.97; while Zichri Hepburn copped the Male in 9:54.08.

Finishing second to John was Zekisha Kelly of the Troumaca Secondary Mustangs, and Kelisha Bowens of the Buccament Bay Secondary was third.

Meanwhile, Maverick Browne of Troumaca Ontario was second to Hepburn, and third was the St Martin’ Joshua Prescott.

These athletes ran a distance of 3km.

Taking the Open Female was Zita Vincent of High Performance, with a winning time of 24:44.28.

Vanessa Nanton of Island Wide Fitness Club was second, and third was Nyanna Burke of X Cel Track Club.

And, Chatoyer’s Akani Slater pouched the Open Male in 17:10.99, ahead of Ziel Spring of Mustangs and Delroy Glasgow of Roses Academy in that order.

Athletes in the Open category did 5km at the former airport runway.
