SVG begins campaign in Americas Netball World Cup Qualifiers with matches against USA and Jamaica

The St Vincent and the Grenadines  netball team will begin its campaign in the Americas Netball World Cup Qualifiers in Jamaica on Sunday October 16, 2022 with matches against the United States and Jamaica.

The Vincentians first match will be against team USA at the National Indoor Sports Centre  at 12:15 pm Eastern Caribbean time, while the second game will be against hosts Jamaica at 9:15 pm Eastern Caribbean time at the National Indoor Sports Centre.

Team captain Ruthann Williams said “we expect nothing but real tough competition and we are prepared to give our best. I’m a very confident person and I believe in my team. We have a good team spirit, we gel together very well. Every individual player knows that we are going to give of our best so I’m not so nervous.”

Commenting about what it would feel like to play against the Jamaica Sunshine Girls, Williams responded: “I do not think it’s a matter of the team that they bring. It’s not about them. It’s about my team; my team gives of its best. So the strength of the other team doesn’t really matter. It’s about us. So as a team once we go and we play together and we keep focused anything is possible.”

Head coach Godfrey Harry said “there are eight teams fighting for two spots. We are no exception. We are here to make sure that we can get one of those two spots. So we’re going to play tooth and nail to make sure that we get one of those spots because that’s the reason for us being here and that is the reason for the other teams being here. We are not letting our guard down and we are not taking anybody for granted.”
