HKF Kumite titles decided

The Bascombe siblings, Cahya and Amiyah along with Jonathan Wood were crowned Kumite winners last Saturday, May 28 when the Hairouna Karate Federation (HKF) held its 7 & Under and 13 & Under championships at the Belmont Apartments Conference Event Centre (BACE).

Cahya turned the table on Azalea Cox in the Girls 7 and Under age group. Cox had won the Kata title on May 7. This time around, the judges scored the contest 14-7 in a favour of Bascombe.

Amiyah, though added the Kumite title to her Kata triumph with a 16-11 win over Mowriyah Dallaway, to be the undisputed Girls 13 and Under title.

Meanwhile, Wood upstaged Mc Quinn Mockett in the Boys 13 and Under showdown. Wood won the duel 13-9.

Wood and Mockett reached the final after different routes. Wood first had to see off Rudino Roberts, 14-10 and Levi Burnett, 18-10; while Mockett had the better of Darius Humphrey 8-0 in his lone match before the final.

Zakeel Morgan and Evan Scott were the other competitors in the 13 and Under Boys category. Morgan’s single outing was a 13-5 loss to Burnett, while Scott was beaten by Humphrey 18-7.

The next championships to be hosted by HKF will be for the Under-17 and Under-21 age groups.
