More records broken at recent time trials
A TOTAL OF three National records were broken by swimmers of the Black Sands Swim Squad (BSSS), at the May 20-21 time trials hosted by the SVG Swimming Federation.
In the boys 13-14 age group, Carifta 2022 Bronze medallist, Brandon George destroyed the 100m backstroke record by 2.3 seconds, swimming a time of 1:01.57. The record was previously held by Nikolas Sylvester with a time of 1:03.87.
Close on his heels was teammate, Matthew Ballah who swam a record-breaking time of 1:02.68 to place second.
In the Girls 13-14 age group, Kennice Greene smashed the 50m freestyle record in a time of 27.13 seconds, previously held by Shne Joachim in a time of 27.25 seconds.
Kenale Alleyne, swimming in the Boys 15 and over age group also smashed the current 100m freestyle record in a time of 53.01 seconds; the record was previously held by Shane Cadogan who did a time of 53.48 seconds at the OECS Championships in 2020.
Up and coming paralympic swimmer, Kentreal Kydd managed to improve his times in both the 50m and 100m freestyle.
A total of 49 swimmers from BSSS took part in the time trials, 15 of whom took part for the first time; and many personal best times were achieved by other swimmers.
The next National competition for BSSS swimmers will be at the Gallagher Swimming Championships in August.
