‘Scrambler’ moved by unbridled generosity
Vincentian football coach- Renrick “ Scrambler” Alexander is expressing thanks to all who have been helping him over the years to procure football gear for youths here in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
An undertaking that it is into its fourteenth year having started in 2008, Alexander, who resides in New York, USA feels a sense of gratitude at this time.
“ I have been doing this thing for sometime now as I just want to see Vincy Soccer (football) grow… When I ask for anything it is for my homeland”, Alexander told SEARCHLIGHT.
He said over the years he has experienced many touching stories where his efforts have changed the lives of many aspiring local footballers.
Born and raised in the South Leeward area before migrating to the USA, Alexander said that his recent undertakings have been overwhelming.
He singled out a gesture in 2021, as one of his most rewarding undertakings.
“ Last year when the volcano erupted, I reached out to my friends, past and present players asking for donations”, Alexander recalled.
But he was touched by the response to his request by 11 -year-old Joss Lessieu who took up the challenge by putting up flyers and bins all over her school, collecting items such as toothpaste, shampoo, toothbrushes, toilet paper and soap.
Lessieu’s campaign also netted books, pencils, art materials, soccer gear inclusive of shin-guards and socks.
When accumulated, Alexander was able to ship seven commercial cargo boxes along with three wardrobe boxes for distribution by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF).
Moved by the initiative of Lessieu, Alexander recently presented her with an authentic custom designed Vincy Heat jersey.
Alexander told SEARCHLIGHT that with people like Lessieu he is compelled to redouble his efforts to ensure that young footballers here are properly suited up.
