Athletes go on Carifta trials this weekend

Locally based athletes will take to the synthetic track at the Diamond this Saturday and Sunday, as they seek to meet the standards set by Team Athletics SVG for the 2022 Junior Carifta Games.

Saturday’s programme includes the 100m Hurdles for the Under17s, the 110 Hurdles for the Under-20s, the 1500, 100m and 400m for both age groups.

Additionally on Saturday, those in the Octathlon will compete in the 100m, 400m, the long jump and shot putt. Meanwhile those in the Heptathlon will do the high jump, shot putt and 200m.

Team Athletics SVG will also give athletes outside of the Carifta trials the opportunity to have some competition. Therefore, on Saturday, these athletes will do the 110m Hurdles, 1500m, 100m, as well as the 400m.

Sunday’s programme which runs off at 1:00p.m will cover the 400m Hurdles, the 800m, and 200m for the two age categories.

Other events slated for Sunday include the 110m Hurdles, High Jump, Javelin and 1500m , for those doing the Octathlon; while long jump, Javelin and 800m will get the attention of the Heptathlon athletes.

There will also be a 400m Hurdles open males, 800m open for both males and females, along with 200m open for both genders.

According to a release from Team Athletics SVG, Jaheme Harry and Zacri Sobers (U-17 male), along with Devonric Mack, Oryan Velox, Uroy Ryan, Verrol Sam and Amal Glasgow in the Under-20 male have already qualified for the Junior Carifta Games in Jamaica, April 16-18.
