CLSS sets the pace

The Central Leeward Secondary School (CLSS) has shown that despite the absence of some amenities, the Diamond Track Facility, with a few adjustments, can host a school’s Track and Field Championships.

Senior Boys champion- Devonric Mack

The CLSS thus became the first school to stage its Inter- House Athletic Championships at the Diamond facility last Friday, February 25.

Despite the intermittent showers, the athletes from the leeward side of the mainland shone brightly on the track and when the well -organised championships was completed, it was Bailey House (Blue), that emerged on top.

Bailey ended on 1344 points; Lewis (Orange) was a distant second on 1171 points. Docking in third was Scott ( Red) on 1031 points and James (Green) on 1023 points took up the cellar position.

Winning the Girls Junior Champion was Shykeina Dickson of Lewis with 52 points. There was a tie between Daniel Raime (Lewis), and Dimar Barnwell ( James), for the Boys Junior Champion. They each compiled 25 points.

Meanwhile, Bailey House’s Akayla Hamblett champed the Girls Intermediate title with 35 points, and taking the Boys Intermediate title was Ricardo Williams of Lewis, on 36 points.

Gailann John- 44 points of Lewis, secured the Girls Senior title, and Devonric Mack of James House was the Boys Senior champion.

Mack totalled 31 points.

Shykeina Dickson was the Victrix Ludorum and Ricardo Williams, the Victor Ludorum.

Friday’s Championships also saw students from the Layou Primary School and the Barrouallie Anglican School getting an opportunity to compete; while the Bethel High School and the Troumaca Ontario Secondary were engaged in invitational races.

The EC$ 4 million Diamond Track, built by the government of St Vincent and the Grenadines, was officially opened in November, 2020. The venue has since hosted several events of Team Athletics SVG, the governing body from Track and Field in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
