Bailey, Durrant top podium in first road race

Zefal Bailey and Peter Durrant, topped the podium last Sunday, as the 2022 SVG Cycling Union road races began.

Bailey was first among the elite cyclists, winning the 25.2 miles event in 1: 20.40.11, ahead of second place- Marlon Antrobus, who timed 1:22.13.38. Max Alvis came in third in 1:22.40.28.

The other cyclist who completed the course was Lucky Antrobus, in 1:28.22.56.

Durrant confirmed that he is the real master cyclist in the land as he again outshone the field. Durrant was able to back his pre-race mouthing by returning a winning time of 1:01.34.46.

He thus left Steve Ollivierre to watch him finish. Olliverre’s second place time was 1:02.6.58.

Third was Martin Bollers in 1:06.29.55 and fourth- Carlos Rivas, in 1: 16.16.88.

The race started at Browne’s Hardware in Stubbs. From there, cyclists went north-eastwards to Biabou, and back to the Calder Gap and finish at the top of Argyle.

As such, the elite cyclists did the circuit three times, a distance of 25.2 miles, while the masters did so twice, covering 19.5 miles.

The next races on the calendar are slated for February 12 and 13.
