Vincentian duo drafted in BPL
Vincentian fast bowlers- Obed Mc Coy and Kesrick Williams have been selected for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) which will take place from January 21 to February 18, 2022.
Mc Coy, a left armer has been selected to represent the Fortune Barishal, while Williams will turn out for the Sylhet Sunrisers.
It will be Mc Coy’s first T/20 stint in the BPL. He was set to play in the Pakistan Super League for the Multan Sultans in June this year, but opted out.
Mc Coy, who turns 25 in January, has played for Team Abu Dhabi in the Abu Dhabi T/10 league.
On the other hand, fellow Vincentian- Williams, who will be 32 in January, has had previous T/20 outings overseas, as he has played in the BPL before for the Chattogram Challengers Rajshahi Kings, the Toronto Nationals in Canada’s Global T/20 as well as the Pokhara Rhinos in the Everest Premier League in Nepal and Karnatake Tuskers in the Abu Dhabi T/10.
Both Mc Coy and Williams have played regularly in the Caribbean Premier League for the St Lucia Zouks and St Lucia Stars, while Williams has also represented the Jamaica Tallawahs. They also have played for the West Indies in One Day Internationals and T/20 Internationals.
In his imminent BPL debut, Mc Coy joins fellow West Indians- Chris Gayle and Alzarri Joseph in the Fortune Barishal, whereas Williams is the lone West Indian on the Sunrisers roster.
Other West Indians drafted in the BPL are Oshane Thomas and Sunil Narine, who went to the Cumilla Victorians, with Kennar Lewis, Rayad Emrit and Chadwick Walton going to the Chattogram Challengers. The other franchises are the Khulna Tigers and Dhaka.
Overseas players are set to earn between US$ 20 000 and $75 000, while local players will receive between $5 555 to $ 77 700.
The winner of the BPL will earn approximately US$111 100, while the runner-up gains approximately US$ 55 555.
