Breakaway Masters celebrate fifteen with honour

The Breakaway Masters Organisation commemorated its 15th anniversary, with a dinner/ cocktail and an honouring ceremony, last Sunday evening at the President’s Suite, Arnos Vale Playing Field.

Beyond the décor and the socialization, the night belonged to Lennox Francis, who have made sterling contributions to the Breakaway Masters Organisation over the years.

He was to have shared the spotlight with Wayne Crichton, but was unable to do so.

Francis, a business executive for the 40 years, but who retired in December 2019 after serving 17 years as the General Manager of the Agriculture Input Warehouse, from 2002.

It was during Francis’ tenure, that the sponsorship deal for the AIW Under-15 Division of the annual Breakaway Masters Firms’ Invitational football tournament was inked.

Francis is credited with providing more sponsorship than the organisers had expected.

The Under-15 component of the tournament came into being in 2014, but was later raised to Under-16.

In the case of the evening’s other honouree, Wayne Crichton, he has provided the Breakaway Masters with assistance through his company, Arabesque Inc.

According to information from the Breakaway Masters, Crichton has tirelessly given to the organisation. One of Crichton’s highlight moments, was his donation of all the trophies to the honourees of the 1979 national football team.

Crichton is expected to formally receive his tokens at a specially arranged ceremony.

Both Francis and Crichton add to a list of those recognized by the Breakaway Masters over the years.

They join, the late Fred Trimmingham and Rudolph “Micey” Sutherland; the Ballantyne Family (three of whom have since deceased), Ian Sardine, Ali Monroe, Keith Boyea, Woodrow Williams and the 1979 SVG senior men’s football team.

Last year, the Breakaway Masters stayed in house and honoured their own, Leopold Dopwell, who has been their fulcrum for many years.

Otherwise, the Breakaway Masters has given educational assistance to students, as well as other humanitarian donations.

The Breakaway Masters flagship event is its annual Firms Invitational football tournament, which kicked off in 2011. The tournament hosts a senior division, an Under-16 segment, a female component and an Under-19 male division.

The 2021 edition of the tournament could not have been staged because of the Covid- 19 situation.
