U-20 Pan American champions postponed

St Vincent and the Grenadines join other countries which have had their preparation for the Under-20 Pan American Championships put on hold.

This, as organisers last week were forced to postpone the event which was set to be held in Concepcion, Chile, from October 22 to 24.

Member associations were informed via a letter from Juan Luis Carter, president of the Chilean Athletic Federation.

The October 6 letter stated that a confluence of circumstances caused the postponement.

Carter’s letter stated that, “due to the recent re-opening of Chile post coronavirus, many airlines have not resumed their flights to Santiago de Chile (while) the health authorities require the entry of athletes from all countries with the application of vaccines against the coronavirus and many countries have not reported that the priority has been the vaccination of the oldest population”.

Accordingly, Carter added: “We are willing to organize the event and receive a majority of countries with a large number of athletes, so we have proposed to the Pan American Athletics Association to hold the event between the months of April and May as a preamble to the U-20 World Championship in Cali Colombia”.

Both NACAC and the CONSUDATLE are expected to discuss their respective calendars, to agree on a date suited to both organisations.

Reports are that St Vincent and the Grenadines had already selected a team of athletes for the championships.
