Zefal Bailey does SVG’s best at Cycling championships

Zefal Bailey turned out to be St Vincent and the Grenadines’ best, when this country participated in the Caribbean Cycling Championships (CCC), as well as the Pan American Championships, staged last week in the Dominican Republic.

Bailey, who was among a Vincentian trio, which also included Cammie Adams and Albert Quammie, placed ninth in the CCC, which turned out to be a 57- mile event.

Bailey was 33 seconds behind the winner, Joshua Kelly of Barbados, whose time was 1:53.31. St Vincent and the Grenadines were able to get another top ten place, as Adams finished tenth, while Quammie was twelfth. Seventeen cyclists started the race, which was intended to be a 75-mile event, but the inclement weather forced a reduction by 18 miles.

Two days later, in the larger Pan American Championships, Bailey was the lone Vincentian to reach the finish line in the 106-mile race. Bailey finished 36th.

As it turned out, Quammie exited the race at 60 miles, while Adams crashed during the last lap of the race.
