Verrol Sam adds to Track and Field records for 2021

Verrol Sam is the latest to establish a new record in St Vincent and the Grenadines track and field for 2021, when he re-wrote the male Under-20 high jump best height.

Sam, a former student of the St Vincent Grammar School, erased the 22-year-old record set by Sylmond Jack, of 1.96m, when he leapt to 2.0m at the 2021 Grace Kennedy Boys/ Girls Champs last Saturday at the Jamaica National Stadium.
Sam is a current student of the Kingston College in Jamaica.

His new mark follows a bumper year of records, making it the 11th to be reset within the last four-and-a-half months.

Sam’s feat adds to Handal Roban’s new times in the male 800m Under-20 and 1500m, along with Uroy Ryan’s Under-20 Long Jump’s distance.

Also extending the boundaries thus far for the year has been Mikeisha Welcome, who has the outdoor triple jump record, as well as the indoor long jump and triple jump.

Similarly, Shafiqua Maloney has the women’s indoor and outdoor 800m in her grasp, while Kemroy Cupid owns the men’s 60m indoor record.

And, the quartet of Akani Slater, OJ Jackson, Javon Rawlins and Mc Kish Compton, has pouched the national men’s 4 x 100m title.
