Vincentian trio medal at Boys/Girls Champs in Jamaica

Three Vincentian athletes attending school in Jamaica, were on the podium last weekend, claiming medals at the famed ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys/ Girls Champs held at the Jamaica National Stadium.

Verrol Sam, a former St Vincent Grammar School student, earned a silver medal in the High Jump, with a leap of 2.00m.

Meanwhile, Uroy Ryan, who last attended the Thomas Saunders Secondary School, got a bronze in the Long Jump, with a 7.47m performance.

And, Handal Roban collected a bronze medal in the 1500m, clocking 4:01.48.

Roban, despite placing fourth in the 800m, his pet event, achieved a personal milestone, as he qualified for the World Junior Championships set for Nairobi, Kenya in August of this year.

Roban’s 1:50.39 meant that he was faster than the qualifying standard of 1:50:80.

All three competed in Class One of the championships. Ryan and Roban are students of the Jamaica College, the newly crowned champions, while Sam goes to the Kingston College.

It was the trio’s debut outing in Champs, which was seeing a return since its last hosting in 2019.
