Primary school cricketers get research assignment

APART FROM TRYING to claim the title of the champions of the KFC West St George primary schools’ cricket competition, players from the seven participating schools have another task of researching outstanding cricketers from the area.

This assignment was handed to them by area representative and brainchild of the competition, Ces Mc Kie, when the 2020 edition officially got going recently at the Belair Playing Field.

Addressing the cricketers, Mc Kie said: “ We are going to ask you to do research on one outstanding from either of the areas, East or West St George… We will give you the name of the cricketer… You will do the research”.

Continuing to outline the tasks of the players, Mc Kie proposed: “So at the finals of the competition, you will come and tell us and tell the nation all about the outstanding cricketers”.

Mc Kie disclosed that his organising committee plans to name the trophies after outstanding cricketers who hailed from the West St George and East St George constituencies.

Seven schools are participating in the competition, which this year sees the inclusion of the Brighton Methodist and the Calliaqua

Anglican. Both are sponsored by the National Lotteries Authority.

The other teams which are drawn from West St George, are LOG Enterprise Dorsetshire Hill, BDO Belair Government, KPMG Belmont Government, Coreas Distribution Limited Gomea Methodist and Allan’s Bakery Sion Hill Government.

Belair Government won last year’s competition.

April 3, is the date earmarked for the conclusion of this year’s compeition.
