Gomea Methodist licking in WSG primary schools’ cricket

COREAS DISTRIBUTIONS Ltd. Gomea Methodist School, after copping the knock-out title on Saturday, returned to the Belair Playing Field on Sunday to make a winning start, when the 2020 KFC West St George primary schools’ cricket competition began in earnest.

Facing BDO Belair Government, Gomea Methodist powered their way to 193 for 5 off 20 overs. Mbeki King topscored with 58 not out and Zorony Glasgow scored 20.

Malachi Bascombe scalped 3 for 30.

In reply, Belair Government were dismissed for 86 in 15 overs. Joshua Simmons scored 16.

Keyron Patterson took 3 for 23, while Jada Hazell had 2 for 18 and Jeremy Martin, 2 for 23, as Gomea Methodist won by 105 runs.

At the Dorsetshire Hill Playing Field, Allan’s Bakery Sion Hill Government defeated LOG Enterprises Dorsetshire Hill by 10 wickets.

Batting first, Dorsetshire Hill reached 94 for 6 off their 20 overs. Ezekiel Ashton led with 18.

Leslie Codougan took 2 for 18 for Sion Hill Government, which replied with 96 without loss from 12.2 overs.

Sion Hill’s response hinged on 55 extras conceded by Dorsetshire Hill. Leslie Codougan, with 25 not out and David Butler, 16 not out, contributed the remaining runs for Sion Hill Government’s emphatic victory.

The Brighton Methodist, the Calliaqua Anglican and the Belmont Primary, are the other competing schools.

Brighton Methodist and Calliaqua Anglican, are the two new entrants, as this year’s competition has been expanded to include schools for the East St George constituency.
