Owia Young Strikers claim Biabou softball cricket title

Owia Young Strikers won the 2019/2020 Biabou softball cricket competition, beating Hard Hitters by on a faster scoring rate, when rain stopped play in last Sunday’s final at the Biabou Playing Field.

Rohan Lavia stroked 35, to lead Owia Young Strikers to 103 all out from 18 overs.

Bowling for Hard Hitters, Shawn Williams had 3 for 21, Erwin Williams, 2 for 11, Antonio Barker, 2 for 15 and Kerwin Williams, 2 for 16.

Hard Hitters were 42 for 5 in 10.5 overs, when rain ended the match. Clifroy Hoyte scalped 2 for 14 and Daverson Lavia, 2 for 15.

Owia Young Strikers, on Saturday, beat Nice Radio Clinchers by 92 runs, to reach the final.

Dean Browne (47), Zaniel Baptiste (27), and Osneth Cato (24), pushed Owia Young Strikers to 164 for 7 from their 20 overs.

Bowling for Clinchers, Okeiph Andrews took 2 for 30 and Danroy Hector had 2 for 43.

Clinchers replied with 72 all out from 12.2 overs. Danroy Hector scored 23.

For Owia Young Strikers, Allison Lavia grabbed 3 for 10, Amos Lavia, 2 for 8, Daverson Lavia, 2 for 13 and Kirton Lavia, 2 for 22.

The loss by Clinchers on Saturday set up their third place playoff on Sunday versus Sion Hill Tallawahs. Scores: Sion Hill Tallawahs – 173 for 9 from their 20 overs; Clinchers – 70 for 6.

Tallawahs thus took the third place by 103 runs.

For winning the competition, Owia Young Strikers received $2,400; Hard Hitters – $1,400, Sion Hill Tallawahs – $800, and Clinchers – $300.

At the awards presentation which followed last Sunday’s final, Glenroy Dascent of BOSVG All Starz was rewarded for scoring the first 50 and the first 100.

Daverson Lavia of Owia Young Strikers captured the most wickets (18), and scoring the most runs was Erwin Williams of Hard Hitters, who compiled 234 runs.

Rohan Lavia of Owia Young Strikers collected the player of the final award and Rosique Toney of Dr Thomas Injectors, most promising player.

AIA Jets were adjudged the most disciplined team and Top Notch, best dressed team.
