Top three decided in national football’s premiership
The third spot in the Premier Division of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation SVGFF National Club Championships, was confirmed last Saturday.
This, when Sion Hill nipped Hope International 1-0, at the Campden Park Playing Field, via a Sheaquean Millington penalty, which pushed Sion Hill to 35 points, and kept Hope International on 33.
Prior to Sion Hill’s win, SV United which was also in the running for the third spot, was beaten by System 3, two goals to one, also at the Campden Park venue.
BESCO- Pastures
Meanwhile, BESCO Pastures, which was already crowned the 2018/2019 champions, beat Camdonia Chelsea 5-4 on Sunday, at the Campden Park Playing Field, to finish on 53 points.
Likewise, second place North Leeward ended their campaign with a 4-1 defeat of Largo Height at the Golden Grove Playing Field on Sunday, to accumulate 48 points.
One match is pending and has significance for the remainder of the positions on the 12-team table, inclusive of the fourth place, as well as relegation.
This match brings together relegation threatened Bequia United and Je Belle.
Sion Hill
The price is high on Bequia United, as a must win will see them remain in the premiership; any other result will be a demotion.
Conversely, if Je Belle wins, a fourth place is assured, while a draw or defeat, will see them taking the seventh spot.
This result will also affect the positions of Hope International, System Three and SV United, at they can occupy the fourth, fifth and sixth spots, respectively.
Along, with Bequia United, Largo Height and Pride and Joy, are the units which are facing relegation.
Avenues United, winners of the 2017 national club championships, placed eighth this time around, and Camdonia-Chelsea ended in the ninth spot.
Two teams will be demoted to the first division of the National Club Championships, with Awesome FC and Greiggs assured of promotion to the Premiership.
The 2018/2019 national club championships, saw for the first time, the 12 clubs facing each other twice, hence a total of 22 matches per club.
The top clubs are expected to be rewarded with their biggest pay day as the SVGFF has decided to increase significantly the prize monies.
BESCO-Pastures, hence will receive the $20 000 first place cash prize, with the others in for better prize monies than previous years.
