X- Cel’s athletes medal at Barbados outing

Handal Roban won gold in the open 800m and took bronze in the Under-20 male 400m, while Nellie Ambriton got bronze in the Under-17 male 400m, at the Joseph Payne Memorial Athletics Championships in Barbados, last Saturday.

Held at the Barbados National Stadium, Roban was first to the finish line in the 800m, his pet event.

His winning time was 1 minute 52.51 seconds, which turned out to be his best clocking over that distance.

Roban timed 48.9 seconds to earn a bronze medal in the Under-20 male 400m.

Ambriton added the X- Cel Track Club’s other bronze medal, when he registered a 52.75 seconds in Under-17 male 400m.

Roban, at the junior Carifta Games in the Bahamas last year, won SVG’s first 800m gold medal at the inter-regional event, when he copped the Under-17 male title.

He has however moved up to the Under-20 category at the 2019 hosting of the junior Carifta Games, which are scheduled for the Cayman Islands in April.
