Team Athletics SVG stages pre-season relays

Team Athletics SVG held a pre-season relays event at the Sion Hill Playing Field, last Saturday.

Five units, two clubs – IT-DAT Academy and the X-Cel Academy, along with the St Vincent Grammar School, Georgetown Secondary and Troumaca Ontario Secondary (TOSS), competed in the day’s activities.

Except for Georgetown Secondary, the other four units were able to cop a first place in at least one event.

IT- DAT Academy took both the 4 X 800 m male open, as well as the 4 X 400 m open (females).

The winning time in the 4x 800m was 8 minutes 51.10 seconds, and in the 4x 400m, it was 4 minutes 48.37 seconds.

Similarly, the X- Cel Academy won both the Under-20 male, and 20-and-over male sprint medleys.

X- Cel Academy bested the Under-20 event in 2 minutes 06.88 seconds and clocked a winning time of 2 minutes 08.86 seconds in the 20-and-over category.

Also taking first place in two of the relays, was the TOSS.

The TOSS’ quartet timed 2 minutes 14.72 seconds to win the Under-17 male sprint medley, while the females of that age group, returned a winning time of 2 minutes 39.57 seconds.

And, the St Vincent Grammar School was the first to cross the finish line in the 4 x 400m male open, stopping the clock at 3 minutes 34.17 seconds.

The track and field season will get into high gear during the first half of the new year, as many of the schools will have their inter-house championships, as a prelude to the inter- primary and inter-secondary athletics championships.

During that period as well, there will be the regular mini-meets, national championships, as athletes gear up for the various regional and international championships.
