Mixed results for new entrants in Bequia Basketball Tournament
New entrant in the Under-16 division of the Vita Malt Bequia Basketball tournament, Golden Knights, got off to a rollicking debut with a 53-43 win over Hawks last Friday evening at the Clive Tannis Hard Court.
Leading Golden Knights was Corsini Pollard with 18 points, while Jerimiah Bernard and Shoan Lewis had 12 points each for Hawks.
But it was not the same baptism for Police United, who went under to last year’s first division champions Raptors, 49-76.
National player Kirsten Lampkin scored 17 points for Raptors, but it was a game-high 22 points by Ninrom Laborde, albeit in a losing cause for Police United.
The woes of Police United remained when they returned to the venue on Saturday night to face off with East Blazers.
This time it was a heavier defeat for the lawmen, who were beaten 91-47.
Keithroy Lavia poured in 26 points for East Blazers, while Nimron Laborde scored 21 points for Police United.
East Blazers also won on Sunday night, getting past Kings 56-52.
Denroy Hutchins scored 17 points for East Blazers and 15 points were registered by Mark Browne for Kings.
In other results on the weekend, Dragons saw off Titans 33-24 in the Under-16, and also in that division, Hornets got the better of Young Wizards 38-15.
And, in the second division, Blazin Heat edged out Rising Stars II, 52-51, and Young Duke also stopped Rising Stars II, 71-52.
Matches on Wednesday will feature Hawks versus Rockets in the Under-16 division; Rising Stars II against Young Duke in the second division, and in the first division, Kings take on Police United.
