Jaydon Williams docks second in junior CASA Under-11

Jaydon Williams made the best showing for the all-Vincentian team, which represented the OECS in the individual segment of the XXXVI junior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) tournament that concluded last Tuesday at the La Liquanea Club, located in Kingston, Jamaica.

Williams, contesting the male Under-11 category, reached the final, but could not go all the way, as he was defeated by Lukas Thomson of the host country, 11-7, 11-4, 5-11, 6-11, 11-3, in the title decider.

Before reaching the final, Williams had victories over Barbadian Theodore Hagley, 11-4, 11-9, 11-2 and Guyanese Chad De Abreu, 11-2, 11-6, 11-1.

The stage was set for an all-OECS final, after Jayden George had ousted the top seed Shiloh Asregado of Guyana 12-10, 6-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7 and he beat Owen Roserea of Bermuda 11-5, 4-11, 11-3, 11-7.

But George was stopped by eventual winner Lukas Thomson in the semi-finals.
Thomson defeated George 11-4, 11-3, 11-0.

George, though, took the bronze, when he squared off against De Abreu 8-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-7.

Meanwhile, Kai Bentick, who was seeded number two in the male Under-17, dropped one place from his last year’s second.

Bentick had swished Guyana’s Anthony Islam 11-5, 11-3, 11-1, and had an 11-3, 11-1, 11-7 win over Christopher Anthony of Trinidad and Tobago.

This set Bentick to face Taylor Garrick of Guyana in the semi-finals, but Bentick faltered, losing 11-4, 6-11, 5-11.

But Bentick triumphed over Daniel Islam of Guyana 11-2, 11-3, 11-3, to cop the bronze.

Nadira Morgan finished seventh in the female Under-13, Mikhail Quashie was 17th in the male Under-17, and Mikal Quashie, 6th in the male Under-19.

Mikal Quashie reached the final of the consolation, but lost to Jamaican Adam Ardito, 11-4, 10-12, 10-12, 8-11.

Overall, Barbados took six individual titles, with Guyana and Jamaica copping two apiece.

Wednesday saw the commencement of the teams’ competition.

The tournament closes off tomorrow, Saturday, July 14.

Barbados is the defending junior CASA champion.
