Zefal Bailey, Peter Durrant win cycling Hill sprint event
Zefal Bailey returned to his winning ways in the elite category, while Peter Durrant stayed unbeaten, when the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cycling Union held a 10.1 miles Premium Products Hill Sprint last Monday morning.
Bailey, who lost to Enroy Lewis in the Subway 44 mile classic the previous week, took the Hill Sprint with a clocking of 38 minutes 02.84 seconds.Samuel Lyttle was second in 40 minutes 51.89 seconds, with Lucky Antrobus in third place in 40 minutes 53.85 seconds.
The two other cyclists in the elite category were Marlon Antrobus, who clocked 44 minutes 51.40 seconds and Albert Quammie, in 50 minutes 13.39 seconds. Their overall placings were fifth and sixth, respectively.
Among the masters, Durrant clocked 43 minutes 06.69 seconds to top that category, as he was fourth to the finish line.
Second to Durrant and in overall seventh place was Martin Bollers, who clocked 56 minutes 37.68 seconds, and third in the masters and eighth overall was Leroy Constantine.A timing of 58 minutes 08.88 seconds, was registered for Constantine.
Cash awards were presented to the top three in the two categories.
Monday’s race which saw the cyclists having to mount six hills of the course, began at Happy Hill (situated between Layou and Mt Wynne) and ended at Lowmans Hill, on the leeward side of the mainland.
