A 5-km walk/run this Sunday, May 13, dubbed Running Against Criminal Elements (RACE) from the Sion Hill Intersection to Ottley Hall, is another way of helping to alleviate the stigma associated with the Ottley Hall community.

The 5-km walk/run begins at 3 p.m., and would move along Murray’s Road into Kingstown, then to Rose Place. From there, the walkers/runners will mount the area known as “Nine Steps”, and use the Edinboro main road. The walk/run culminates at the Palace entertainment centre in Ottley Hall.Cash awards are in store for the top three places of the various categories, including special awards for finishers from either Edinboro or Ottley Hall.Explaining the reason behind Sunday’s event, lead organiser Julius Morgan told SEARCHLIGHT, “It is about bringing the community together and trying to reduce some of the stigma associated with Ottley Hall”.

Morgan told SEARCHLIGHT that several secondary school, namely Bethel High School, Bishop’s College Kingstown, St Martins, Dr. JP Eustace Memorial, St Vincent Grammar School, Thomas Saunders Secondary, Girls’ High School and St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown, will be participating.Apart, three Police Youth clubs, the Be Fit Movement and the Boot Camp, have assured the organisers of their participation.Morgan said he is grateful to the several persons and businesses who have been supportive of the venture.

The organiser said that efforts of forging a better relationship with the people of Ottley Hall and others have been ongoing. He noted that since the hosting of a two-day football competition in December, several teams from nearby communities have been invited to pit their skills against the adult players from Ottley Hall.
