GTC gets mixed doubles tennis going again

The Grassroot Tennis Club’s Lewis Pharmacy mixed double tennis tournament, which concluded last Saturday afternoon at the Grand View Hotel court, ended a long drought of that format of tennis competition.

The two-week tournament, which had eight mixed doubles teams contesting, saw the pair of Khir Huggins and Michelle Gun Munro defeating the duo of Corey Huggins and Sherri Ann John, 6-3 in the final.

Khir Huggins and Gun Munro secured a berth in Saturday’s final, with an 8-6 trumping over the combination of Nikotello Providence and Akeisha Lowe.

The other half of the semis resulted in Corey Huggins and John conjuring up an 8-4 win over Onike Spann and Naudeen Harry.

All four top places were presented with tokens, compliments the sponsor and long-standing signage holder of the Grassroot Tennis Club, Lewis Pharmacy.

The Grassroot Tennis Club has on its radar a women’s tournament and a weekend blow tournament, to be convened soonest.
