Sparta take North East Premier Division football title
Bruce Law Chambers Sparta FC have been installed as the new champions of the Premier Division the 2017/2018 National Lotteries Authority/FLOW/Hairoun North East Football League.
Played on a round robin format, Sparta formalized the title last Sunday at the Chili Playing Field, with a 2-0 win over Jebelles/Chapmans.
Scoring for Sparta FC, were Kendol Douglas and Wasim Providence, thus dethroning the 2016/2017 winners â PYOLA of Layou.
Sparta have an opportunity to do the double, as they are also in the final of the Community Shield competition, set for this Sunday from 5 p.m.
Standing in their way are Greiggs, who also made it through the knockout competition.
Sparta, on Tuesday, gained a berth in the final,â with an uncomplicated 5-1 win over Hairoun Ballerz in their semi-final match-up.
Brad Richards, with a hat-trick and Zimroy Charles, with a brace, led Spartaâs scoring. Jarrel Mc Master replied for Hairoun Ballerz.
In the other side of the semis, Greiggs eliminated Owia 2-1. Valdo Anderson struck both goals for Greiggs, while Keithron Baptiste scored for Owia.
The Community Shield featured 16 teams from the league; however, participation was restricted geographically. Hence, only teams which originated from Fancy in the north, Richland Park in the west and south as far as Biabou, were eligible to participate.
Meanwhile on Sunday, North Windward All Stars defeated Owia FC 2 â 0 to advance to the final of the First Division segment.
Ozim Henderson and Omar Cupid netted for the victors.
The other finalists, World XI, beat Pride and Joy 1-0 on Monday to have a shot at the title. Curlon Joseph scored the lone goal of the match.
The First Division final, which is set to kick off at 7 p.m., will bring the league to a close.
The closing and presentation ceremony will take place thereafter.(RT)
