Blue Marlins break records at FLOW Invitational 2017

Zariel Nelson of the Blue Marlins Swim Club won 10 gold medals while breaking eight records in the 8 & Under category of the 2017 edition of the annual Flow Invitational Swim Meet.

The meet, which took place at the Shrewsbury Aquatic Centre at Ratho Mill on the weekend of August 24 to 27, saw many fantastic performances, resulting in a total medal count of 71 and several records broken.

The Blue Marlins Club fielded 27 swimmers in several age group categories, namely 6 and Under, 7 – 8, 9 –10, 13 – 14 and 15 & Over.

In addition to her 10 gold medals, Zariel also emerged overall Age Group Champion and won the Sprint Challenge for the Girls 8 & Under. Adiah Phillips obtained three gold, three silver and one bronze and broke three records. Kennice Greene broke two records and got one gold and five bronze, and Matthew Ballah also broke two records while attaining one gold, two silver and six bronze.

The powerhouse of the Robinson family, Tyler amassed eight gold and won the Sprint Challenge in the 6 and Under age category; older siblings Jomaine and Rhema both managed one bronze and one silver respectively. Jaynika Williams copped an impressive two gold and six silver medals.

Seth Byron gained one gold, one silver and two bronze. Garth Bullock returned from his hiatus with one gold. Other commendable performances came from Lauren DeRoche, gaining three silver and two bronze. Nicholas DeFreitas with two silver and one bronze and Kai Dasent Marks got one silver and one bronze.

Ariel Pierre had two bronze and Tyler Matthias, Taeyah St Hillaire, Breanna Bruce and Kelsea Nichols won one bronze each.

Making up the rest of the young Blue Marlins team were Tai Joseph, Sabastian DeFreitas, Vincent Beache, Hazen DaBriel, Dylan Pretli, Myracle Doyle, Kevisha Richardson, Jnea Adams and Mya Zorya Samuel.

Coaches Neisha Alexander, Rickydene Alexander, Sarah Smith and Xaveon Caesar continue to groom the swimmers in developing both skill and discipline. There is no doubt SVG can look forward to great national team representation and performances from the young enthusiastic swimmers of the club.

Other clubs from Grenada, Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago also participated.
