SVG heads to continental volleyball championships

St Vincent and the Grenadines will be making its maiden trip to the men’s NORCECA Continental Championships in Colorado Springs, USA, next month.

 This achievement was made possible compliments taking Group E of the qualification round for teams in the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA), of the NORCECA Zone of World Championships, at the Beausejour Indoor facility in St Lucia.

 Facing off against Dominica for the second time in the tournament, St Vincent and the Grenadines, again prevailed 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25- 21).

 St Vincent and the Grenadines finished with a 3: win /loss ratio, having also beaten St Kitts and Nevis and Dominica 3-1 in the preliminary phase, but lost to Antigua and Barbuda, 2-3.

 The final standings saw Antigua and Barbuda third and St Kitts and Nevis, fourth.

 St Vincent and the Grenadines won multiple individual awards.

 Ronaldo was one of two Best Outside Hitters and the MVP of the tournament.

 SVG’s captain Daryl Franklyn won the Best Receiver award and Asmond Franklyn was the other Best Outside Hitter.

 Jahmal Small, also of St Vincent and the Grenadines, was the Best Setter; Marcus Thomas, one of two Best Middle Blockers and Jad Martin, Best Digger.

St Kitts and Nevis’ Shawn Seabrooks was the Best Scorer; Yhan Florent of Dominica, the other Best Middle Blocker; Yashid Auguiste of Antigua and Barbuda, Best Libero and Jamarie James, also of Antigua and Barbuda, Best Server.

St Lucia won Group D, played at the same venue, to join St Vincent and the Grenadines in the US outing.

On the night St Lucia, blanked St Maarten 3-0. St Martin placed third and Anguilla – fourth.
