Victors One, Team Rivals to rumble for Twenty/20 cricket title

Victors One and Team Rivals will contest the final of the National Lotteries Authority Neil Williams 20/20 Cricket Competition, this Saturday, March 4, from 2 p.m., at the Sion Hill Playing Field.

The two will renew their rivalry after the Super-40 final last October at the Park Hill Playing Field ended in the match being called off after a controversial decision by umpire Roger Davis.

The matter, when dealt with by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc, resulted in both teams sharing the title.

The two had a dress rehearsal last Sunday, also at the Sion Hill Playing Field and resulted in Victors One winning by nine wickets.

Team Rivals could only make 107 for 6 wickets from their 20 overs. Casmond Walters stroked 5 fours and a pair of sixes in his top score of 57.

For Victors One, Norlan Williams took 2 for 17 and Alston Bobb had 2 for 20.

Chrisroy John powered 4 fours and 4 sixes in his 59 and Atticus Browne, 30, as Victors One replied with 112 for 1.

Both teams on Saturday had commanding wins over their foes.

Team Rivals pulverized Guardian General Saints at the Arnos Vale One Playing Field.

Walters smacked 10 fours and 11 sixes in a belligerent 135 not out. Dillon Douglas chimed in with 43 not out, as Team Rivals posted 215 for 2 from their 20 overs.

Saints finished on 149 for 7 from their allotment. Teron Simon, 25 not out, was the main contributor. Casmond Walters was among the wickets, taking 2 for 28 and Rasheed Fredericks had 2 for 32, to lead Team Rivals to a 66-run win.

Similarly, at the adjoining Arnos Vale Two, Victors One scored an 89-run win over dethroned champions Flow Radcliffe.

Batting first, Victors One got to 195 for 6 from their 20 overs. Miles Bascombe remained his consistent self, making 56, Atticus Browne, 47 and Donwell Hector, 38.

Radcliffe folded for 106 in reply, with Romano Pierre scoring 28, while Alston Bobb snared 3 for 22 and Shaquille Browne and Ray Jordan, both captured 2 for 17.

At Sion Hill, Smashers compiled 207 for 4 versus Providence Electronic Solutions North Leeward. Kirton Lavia scored 84 not out, Rawdon Bentick, 46 and Kuthbert Springer, 33.

In response, North Leeward was ringed in for 186 for 7 from their 20 overs.

Michael Edwards scored 38, Vidal Edwards, 33 and Arben Neverson, 30. Marvin Harry picked up 2 for 19 bowling for Smashers.

But on Sunday, Smashers did not replicate their form when they met Saints at Arnos Vale One, losing by 58 runs.

Saints posted 210 for 4 from their 19 overs. Rickford Walker’s 75 saw him striking 9 fours and 4 sixes, while Romel Currency recorded 45, inclusive of 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Smashers reached 152 for 4 from their 19 overs. Kirton Lavia replayed his knock on the previous day, hitting 3 fours and 8 sixes in his 75 and Kuthbert Springer added 36.

Bowling for Saints, Kimali Williams took 2 for 5.

And, Radcliffe’s miserable run in the Super-Six ended on a winning note, as they scraped a six-run win over North Leeward at Arnos Vale Two.

Wayne Harper, Radcliffe’s top scorer with 68 and Romano Pierre, 63, led their team to 155 for 4 from their 20 overs. Harper lashed 5 fours and 3 sixes and Pierre registered 10 fours.

Ronnique Laborde picked off 2 for 14, bowling for North Leeward, who responded with 149 all out in 20 overs.

Shammon Hooper hit 34 and Arben Neverson, 26. Lindon James, with 3 for 9, Dyke Cato, 2 for 31 and Gidron Pope, 2 for 41, were the successful bowlers for Radcliffe.
